His voice shook, tears gathering as he fell onto his knees. Stiles stood silently behind him, surprised and at a loss for words as he stared at the lifeless body in front of him.
“D…” Stiles swallowed and tried again, his voice barely above a whisper. “Derek.”
“Everyone around me gets hurt.”
Stiles stayed silent. They both knew it was the truth. Walking closer, he raised his hand and let it fall on Derek’s shoulder, squeezing the tense muscle in some vague attempt at comfort.
He didn’t expect Derek to break down at the touch, body convulsing as he bit his bottom lip to keep the sobs in, blood spilling down his chin.
Falling down to his knees beside him, Stiles rested his chin over Derek’s shoulder, hand holding onto the man’s neck as he turned his head and buried it in Stiles’ neck.
There wasn’t anything to say. He wouldn’t tell him that everything was going to be fine. He’d be lying and Derek would know it. There wasn’t anything he could do but be there.
